Fixed braces are the traditional way of straightening teeth. Metal brackets are attached to your teeth and have wire connecting the brackets.
Despite modern forms of dental braces being available, many patients from Greenwich, Canada Water, Stratford, Canning Town, West India Quay and throughout London are choosing to get straight teeth with fixed braces because they remain the most precise way to straighten teeth.
Fixed braces also remain popular because they can treat mild through to the most severe orthodontic cases. Fixed braces can:
After your initial consultation, we will take dental moulds of your teeth which will be used to make your bespoke brackets.
Once ready, you will be invited back to the dental surgery at Greenwich to have the metal brackets fixed to your teeth. Once cemented on to your teeth, they will not be removed until the end of your treatment.
Next, a strong metal wire is threaded through the brackets. This helps to create the gentle pressure that is needed to straighten your teeth.
In some cases, your orthodontist may attach elastics or small rubber bands at certain points to your fixed braces. This helps to create more force in a particular area in your mouth. There is no need to worry as they do not hurt at all.
Your orthodontist will need to see you regularly to check that your teeth are moving correctly and to adjust the wires. Fixed braces need to be tightened on a regular basis to maintain the pressure that ensures they are straightening your teeth.
Do fixed braces hurt?
After having your fixed braces fitted, you may find it strange at first, and notice pressure on your teeth. If you experience discomfort, we recommend taking paracetamol. You may want to eat softer foods for the first day or two. Once you have adjusted to wearing your fixed braces, you should not experience any pain at all.
How do you keep fixed braces clean?
It is essential that you pay more attention to your oral hygiene whilst wearing fixed braces as food can become trapped. This is unattractive and increases your risk of developing tooth decay. You should brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day. You can also use an interdental toothbrush which has a small head and allows you to reach the spaces between your teeth and fixed braces.
Patients from Canning Town, West India Quay, Greenwich, Stratford, Canada Water and throughout London are choosing to get straight teeth with fixed braces at The Cosmetic Dental Gallery because:
