What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding, sometimes also referred to as dental bonding or teeth bonding is a popular treatment with patients from Greenwich, Stratford, Canada Water, West India Quay and Canning Town because it is a painless and inexpensive treatment that gives instant results.

Dental bonding is made up of a special dental putty which is gently moulded on to your teeth to disguise problems and dental flaws such as:

  • Cracked and chipped teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Uneven or worn teeth
  • Dis-coloured or heavily stained teeth
  • Small teeth

What is the process for dental bonding in Greenwich?

At your free consultation, we will discuss what you would like to change about your teeth and talk you through the process and benefits of teeth bonding.

At your next appointment, a dental resin will be chosen that matches the colour of your teeth.

We will then prepare your tooth by gently scratching at the surface. A special liquid is applied to your tooth which helps the bonding stick firm.

We will then mould the dental resin on to your tooth until we are happy with how it looks. A laser is then used to seal the composite bonding on to your tooth. Finally, your teeth are given a polish to smooth out the surface.

Dental bonding is a painless procedure which usually takes about an hour to complete. If you are having more than one tooth treated, you may require more appointment times. Your cosmetic dentist can advise you about this.

How long does composite bonding last?

On average, composite bonding should last between 5 and 10 years. You can increase this time by paying good attention to your oral hygiene.

How is composite bonding different to veneers?

Composite bonding and composite veneers are similar treatments that are made from the same materials and are both used to disguise dental flaws. The difference is that veneers are made up of a thin layer which are used to cover the entire surface of the tooth whereas composite bonding is made up of a dental putty which is moulded and shaped on to your tooth.

Is there anything I should avoid after dental bonding treatment?

We often advise patients to avoid drinking and eating anything that is dark in colour such as coffee immediately after your treatment to prevent the bonding from staining. We can advise you more about this at your appointment.
